Born and raised in Rutherford County, La Vergne Firefighter Matt Bunaskey saw his first house fire when he was 6 years old. “We lost everything. I saw firsthand how hard it is when you have lost all your belongings. We had each other though, and I am thankful for that,” said Bunaskey. Seeing his own home burn at such a young age stuck with him, and when he was old enough he knew what career path he wanted to take. “I have always wanted to be able to help other families who may experience the same thing.”
Matt came to the La Vergne Fire Department in 2005. Before that, he served with the Volunteer Fire Department in Walter Hill. His family includes his wife Keri and their 9-year-old twin boys Mathew and Steven.
The city would like to thank Matt Bunaskey for his service to La Vergne. Fire Prevention week started October 9th. If you need are in need of a smoke detector call the Fire Department at 615-793-9115 or stop by one of our fire stations for more info.
