The parking lot of the new Walmart in La Vergne looked more like Black Friday this morning – at least a thousand eager shoppers showed up for the grand opening, to get an inside look at the new store and the deals!
City and county representatives, the current and previous La Vergne economic development teams, and Walmart officials stood side by side to cut the ribbon to the new store. "I am ecstatic that citizens will now have the option to shop smart here in La Vergne. This is a big achievement for the city and could not have happened without the joint effort amongst city officials, the planning commission, the economic development team, and most importantly the support of our citizens," said La Vergne Mayor Dennis Waldron.
Located just off Murfreesboro Rd, the new Walmart Supercenter is hard to miss –with 186,000 square feet, this Walmart will be even larger than the nearby store in Smyrna. Major features include a deli, pharmacy, and an expanded section of Hispanic spices in the food department. The La Vergne store is licensed to sell ammunition and firearms, which will be found in the Sports and Outdoors department. A Subway sandwich shop will be opening inside the store this fall. Store Manager Debbie Cox says, "I am excited to be a part of the community, and I'm looking forward to working in La Vergne."
The sales tax revenue is expected to boost the city's budget, providing the funding for more growth in La Vergne.
