Mayor Dennis Waldron presented Mrs. Jane Vailes with the La Vergne Centenarian Award today, in honor of her 101st birthday this week. Mrs. Vailes was born in 1915, and is the oldest living graduate in her high school class. During World War II she was a real life "Rosie the Riveter," working on B-24 wing spars. Later she would become a writer, and she would have her senior news column published for 25 years. “I may be 101 but I feel like 85. Age hasn’t slowed me down,” said Jane. The surprise party was hosted by the La Vergne Senior Center.
