The La Vergne police and fire departments are coming together to collect school supplies for local teachers ahead of the 2022-23 school year.
The “Stuff the Truck” school supply drive will be on July 30 at the La Vergne Walmart, located at 5511 Murfreesboro Road. Anyone wanting to donate school supplies is encouraged to stop by between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and drop off a donation.
Some of the highly requested supplies include backpacks, pencils and pens, permanent markers, dry erase markers, highlighters, glue sticks, staplers, tissues and paper towels, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, hand sanitizer, lysol wipes, pocket folders, notebooks, paper, Zip-Lock bags, and Post-It notes.
All of the donations collected will be given out to local La Vergne schools and teachers. Donations will only be accepted during the “Stuff the Truck” event.
The school supply drive also falls on the state’s tax free weekend. The sales tax holiday applies to clothing and school or art supplies under $100 and computers under $1,500. More information on the sales tax holiday can be found here.
