[ARCHIVED] 2021 Poster Contest Guidelines

Fire Prevention Week 2021

It is time again for our annual Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest! Fire Prevention Week is October 3rd – 9th, 2021. Fire departments nationwide observe this week each year to mark the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Like last year, the 2021 Poster Contest will be completely virtual.

This year’s theme for Fire Prevention Week is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”. We encounter many sounds in our daily lives, but some are more urgent than others. We are asking students across the Volunteer State to create art to help us spread the message about the sounds of fire safety, what the sounds mean, and how to properly respond to those sounds.

Before entering the contest, be sure to carefully read all the instructions and rules below.

  1. The poster contest is open to all students in Kindergarten through 12th Grade. A total of 16 winners will be chosen. Students are encouraged to submit their entry through their local fire department but may submit their artwork directly to the Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFMO). Here in La Vergne, you can submit your poster to the Public Library.
  2. Posters must be original work of the students and must emphasize the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) annual theme, which is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety”. You can find information on the theme here:
  3. Posters can be submitted as a file upload through the online registration form. Accepted file types include PDF, DOC, DOCX, PNG, JPG, JPEG, and GIF. The file size limit is 16MB. Please make sure the picture of the poster being submitted is clear! All entries submitted to the state MUST have a completed registration form accompanying the poster submission. Please submit all posters to the La Vergne Public Library, located at 5063 Murfreesboro Road.
  4. Registration forms and posters must be submitted by October 25, 2021. Please make sure to include the following information on the back of the poster submitted:  1. Name of artist. 2. Name of Parent/ Guardian. 3. Address. 4. Phone Number. 5. Email Address.
  5. State judging will be held in early December 2021 and winners will be notified soon thereafter. A list of winners and pictures of the winning posters will be posted on the State Fire Marshal’s website. Each winner will receive a Certificate of Achievement from Governor Lee, $50 cash, a prize bag, and an invitation to an awards event that is tentatively scheduled for Nashville in February 2022.
