"Keeping children safe is a top priority for members of the La Vergne Police Department (LPD), and especially while riding in a vehicle", said Chief Mike Walker. LPD has teamed up with La Vergne Fire Department (LFD) to conduct a FREE car seat safety check-up event.
LPD and LFD urge parents and guardians to reduce the risk of death and injury to their children by allowing a certified car seat technician to properly secure their child. Child safety seats and safety belts, when installed and used properly, can prevent injuries and save lives.
Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm at La Vergne City Hall, 5093 Murfreesboro Road to check car seats for proper installation and advise parents and caregivers how to choose the right car seats and install them properly in their vehicles. Drive-up visits are welcome and we encourage parents or caregivers to have their children present during the fitting and installation of the car seat or booster seat.
"I started in the Fire Service in 1986, and unfortunately the car seats for children in that time were seldom used or used correctly. In the last 31 years of service, I can attest to how many lives properly installed car seats have saved, and kept safe from injury", said Fire Chief Rick McCormick.
