The detector monitors a 12 mile radius around Veterans Park and alerts park visitors when conditions exist for possible lightning strikes. A repeater device is installed at the
Bicentennial Park ball fields near City Hall to alert those park visitors of lightning warnings.
When dangerous conditions are detected, two long horn blasts will sound indicating players and visitors should clear the fields and seek shelter. A yellow strobe will also flash indicating the lightning warning is in effect.
When the area is clear, three short horn blasts will indicate the danger has passed and play can resume.
La Vergne citizens can monitor lightning from this page or from their phones by saving the Quick Link to their home screen.
